Historic Church Tour

During your adult tour to Gettysburg, you may want to take a tour of some of the well-known churches in the area. Some of the churches served as hospitals during the conflict, some were built as memorials, and others played a role in the daily life of the citizens who lived during that particular time. There are tours offered for the group to explore. History will come alive as you learn about the churches through programs. You can take a Walking Tour of these fascinating historical landmarks. There are various tours to choose. One of them is known as the West Tour. During the experience, the group will make stops to different churches. You will visit places such as the Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, St. Paul’s AME Zion Church, and Christ Lutheran Church. At each of the locations, your group will have the opportunity to hear factual presentations that focus on the role that each church played during the Battle of Gettysburg. The tour covers six-tenths of a mile and is 90 minutes in length. Another choice to consider is the East Tour. The group will stop at churches such as the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, Trinity United Church of Christ, The G.A.R. Building (United Methodist Church), and St. James Lutheran Church. You will hear factual presentations at each of the locations which focus on the role these churches played during the battle and in the history of the community. The tour covers one-half mile. The Prince of Peace Church was constructed as a national symbol of reconciliation. Veterans placed a cornerstone on the 25th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. There are more than 130 memorial stones and plaques in the bell tower. St. Paul’s AME Zion Church is the oldest African-American church.

Gettysburg Battlefield Tour

When your adult group visits Gettysburg, you may want to take a tour of the famous Gettysburg Battlefield. There are a variety of tour options for visitors to explore. The group should allow four hours to take the tour and view the memorabilia. The museum contains one of the world’s largest collections of outdoor sculptures. The group can take a bus tour of the battlefield and view interesting historic sites. One of the options is known as the Double Decker Bus Tour. During the experience, a licensed guide will share stories about the battle. Another bus tour is the Dramatized Audio Bus Tour. During the program, your group will relive the Battle of Gettysburg. The presentation consists of a Hollywood cast of actors, technicians, and special effects in order to recreate the battle. You will hear drums roll, cannons roar, and rifles crack as part of the experience. Visitors will encounter sites such as Little Round Top, the Peach Orchard, the Devil’s Den, picket’s Charge, and the Wheat Field. During your group visit, the group will want to stop by the National Park Service Museum and Visitor Center which contains information and fascinating displays about the Battle of Gettysburg. The exhibits in the museum are interactive and some of them use multimedia. There is also a film for visitors to view which is called “A New Birth of Freedom.” Morgan Freeman is the narrator of the film. The group can shop at the Museum Bookstore or enjoy some refreshments at the Refreshment Saloon. The bookstore contains books and other items that pertain to the Battle of Gettysburg.

American Civil War Museum

While your adult group is visiting Gettysburg you may want to stop by the American Civil War Museum which is also known as the Gettysburg Heritage Center. The American Civil War Museum offers a fascinating tour for your adult group to experience. During the tour, you will have the opportunity to view historical documents, artifacts, and interactive displays and a film about the Battle of Gettysburg. The group will discover what life was like for civilians living in the town before, during, and after the battle. The film is called “Three Days that Changed a Town.” The presentation takes an in-depth look at the battle including Abraham Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address. There are several interesting interactive programs offered where the group will learn about various aspects of the Civil War. The group can participate in programs such as Learning to be a Civil War Soldier, Who Wore What and Why, and Children of the Civil War. The museum also offers living history presentations from April to November where the group can have conversations with historians. You can learn about clothing worn by the soldiers, how to load a percussion musket, and what the soldiers did to pass the time between battle campaigns. These programs are held on most weekends. The museum also has a gift shop that contains interesting souvenirs. You will find books, games, art prints, and collectables. They also sell merchandise related to the Civil War for the group to explore.

The Hall of Presidents Wax Museum is located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The location features the area’s only complete Wax Collection of American presidents and their First Ladies. Visitors may want to browse the gift shop as well. The group will get to view exquisite background murals that show the development of America. These works were done by Charles Morganthaler. Your group will get the opportunity to see our Commanders in Chief themselves relaying their own stories in words along with stirring music. These individuals who symbolize our nation, in whose hands our forbearers entrusted their welfare, in their own words speaking from their own lips tell about the following: “The Story of Your Land,” This is your heritage,” The Story of the Presidents, and The Story of America. The Museum also contains a wax collection of the First Ladies. The hall presents authentic 1/3 size wax replicas of the First Ladies wearing their inaugural gowns. The dresses are from a famous Smithsonian Collection and are portrayed on the petite sized First Ladies, who have been created to depict the same hair style and divine look that they displayed during the presidential inauguration. Your group will be fascinated by this one-of-a-kind Wax Museum.

Gettysburg Railroad Museum

While your adult group is in Gettysburg, you should make a stop at the Lincoln Train Museum. You will find historical artifacts, a toy train collection, and several locomotives. There is also a Video Hallway of America where you can see the history of our nation come alive. One of the locomotives is the outdoor caboose which at one time traveled the Maryland-Pennsylvania Railroad. The group can climb aboard and go back in time and take a journey with President Abraham Lincoln as he travels to Gettysburg in order to dedicate the National Cemetery. The location is within walking distance of the museum. Another interesting locomotive is the simulated Funeral Train Car the United States. The group can ride with Lincoln’s spirit and take a journey through the nation’s fascinating history. During the visit, your group will have the opportunity to take a journey with Mr. Jim Getty who portrays President Lincoln. You will walk down the video hallway of America. The group can also explore layouts, historical artifacts, and displays of Abram Lincoln, the founding fathers, as well as other great Americans. Visitors can recall the battles and wars that have our nation endured over time and pay tribute to the soldiers, law enforcement, heroes, and veterans of our country. The museum also has memorabilia of our sports figures and Hollywood stars for the group to explore. The museum is a popular attraction for visitors of all ages to enjoy. You will learn about history and see interesting collections and artifacts all in one entertaining museum!

The U.S. Space and Rocket Center is located in Huntsville, Alabama. The location is the official visitor center for the NASA Flight Space Center. It contains one of the largest rocket collections in the world. Student groups can view the exhibits on display and learn about the dramatic space race. Featured exhibits include the Saturn V Hall, Rocket Park, Shuttle Park, Brick Locator, and the IMAX Spacedome Theater. Rocket Park contains 27 rockets and missiles. These rockets show how army rocketry launched America’s space program. Shuttle Park features several launch vehicles. This includes the world’s only fully-stacked Space Transportation System. Saturn V Hall has an authentic Saturn V Rocket. The rocket is one of three in the world. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center offers Children’s Workshops for student groups to enjoy. Workshops include the Science of Imagination Workshops and Saturday Scientist Workshops. The Saturday Scientist Workshops feature hands-on activities. Topics include: solar energy, precipitation, geology of space, and chemistry. The center also contains Ropes Courses. The courses promote teamwork and leadership skills. There are two courses to consider. They are the Low Ropes course and the High Ropes Course. During the Low Ropes Course, the group will do the following: brainstorm, delegate tasks, and plan for the mission. During the mission, the group will incorporate cohesive communication and trust in order to be successful. During the High Ropes program, group members will choose individual levels of difficulty. The equipment for this specific program includes the following items: a Pamper Pole Scale, a Climbing Wall, and a Zip Line. The Climbing Wall is 50 feet tall. Two people will climb this massive wall with the goal of climbing as high as possible. Bring your student group and visit this incredible space center!
