While your adult group is visiting Gettysburg you may want to stop by the American Civil War Museum which is also known as the Gettysburg Heritage Center. The American Civil War Museum offers a fascinating tour for your adult group to experience. During the tour, you will have the opportunity to view historical documents, artifacts, and interactive displays and a film about the Battle of Gettysburg. The group will discover what life was like for civilians living in the town before, during, and after the battle. The film is called “Three Days that Changed a Town.” The presentation takes an in-depth look at the battle including Abraham Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address. There are several interesting interactive programs offered where the group will learn about various aspects of the Civil War. The group can participate in programs such as Learning to be a Civil War Soldier, Who Wore What and Why, and Children of the Civil War. The museum also offers living history presentations from April to November where the group can have conversations with historians. You can learn about clothing worn by the soldiers, how to load a percussion musket, and what the soldiers did to pass the time between battle campaigns. These programs are held on most weekends. The museum also has a gift shop that contains interesting souvenirs. You will find books, games, art prints, and collectables. They also sell merchandise related to the Civil War for the group to explore.
